Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo embraced what he saw as a significant victory over Kentucky Tuesday night.
“Our program needed a program win,” he said, “and that was one.”
Izzo and his UK counterpart, John Calipari, noted the improvement their teams must make.
But perhaps State guard Keith Appling took it a bit too far when he downplayed the significance of the victory.
“Big game, great win,” he said. “But at the same time, we didn’t accomplish anything tonight.”
Izzo, who was sitting next to Appling, reacted.
“Didn’t accomplish anything?” he said with a smile. “What the hell are you talking about?”
