UK just announced its teams’ grade-point averages for the fall semester of 2012.
John Calipari’s men’s basketball team had a GPA of 3.066. That made the Cats among 17 of the 20 UK teams that had a GPA of 3.0 or better.
UK boasted an overall GPA for its scholarship athletes of 3.030. Counting non-scholarship players, the GPA was a 3.034.
That surpassed Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart’s goal of a 3.0.
“I see how hard our student-athletes work every day and this is the result,” Barnhart said in a statement. “I am proud of the commitment our young people and coaches have made to academics. Education is one of the pillars of our program and I want to thank CATS and our entire support staff for taking that to heart.”
The women’s tennis team led the way with a GPA of 3.842.
Of UK’s 273 athletes, more than half had a GPA of 3.0 or better. Fifty-four had a 4.0 GPA, the school’s athletic department said.
