Before his team played Friday night, Charlotte Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap said most great athletes are motivated by a fear of failure.
Dunlap was reacting to UK Coach John Calipari saying earlier in the day that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist expressed initial reservations about turning pro this year. Calipari spoke of receiving MKG’s anxious text messages as a way to show that fear motivates athletes.
Apparently, MKG continues to be moved to give extra effort.
“So he comes in early every day and puts up extra shots and watches film,” Dunlap told the Charlotte Observer Friday night. “He’s great in the locker room, and that’s not something” the public sees.
Kidd-Gilchrist, 19, is the youngest player in the NBA this season. Dunlap said he was especially impressed with MKG’s “unbelievable discipline.”
