In explaining his first double-double after posting 13 of them last season, Kentucky forward Terrence Jones cited necessity as a key factor.
Jones noted teammate Anthony Davis’ foul trouble against Ole Miss Saturday as a reason he scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. “I just wanted to help by getting more rebounds,” he said.
Then Jones used the same reasoning to explain the feast-to-famine nature of so many double-doubles as a freshman and so few as a sophomore.
“I feel it’s just a longer team,” he said of the current Cats. “The rebounds are more spread out for this team.
“Last year was more me having to rebound for us to win.”
UK Coach John Calipari applauded Jones’ play, then predictably called for more of the same in future games.
“Terrence, this is what you should be every game we play,” Calipari said. “It should be a double-double. Without an excuse. I don’t want to hear it. You should be a double-double. You’re a top-five player.”
