Joker: Clemons showed in pre-season camp he might excel

Pre-season camp suggested that freshman Josh Clemons might be an unusually productive first-year player.
“You hear the buzz around the facility in the summer: How he works in the weight room,” UK Coach Joker Phillips said of Clemons on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the SEC named Clemons a Co-Freshman of the Week. He gained 126 yards on 14 carries in UK’s victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
“Then he started getting reps in training camp,” Phillips said. “He was THE back who showed up every day, didn’t miss a day. So we was really durable.
“He really understood the offense. Then in our first scrimmage, some of the cuts he made (suggested a talented newcomer).”
