UK names Liggins to its ‘Society of Character’

The University of Kentucky named 12 athletes, including DeAndre Liggins, to its Frank G. Ham Society of Character on Thursday.

The 12 will be recognized on Saturday. The Society of Character, which was founded in 1998, recognizes athletes who haven shown a  commitment to academic excellence, personal development and career preparation while also serving as a role model.

Here’s what a UK news release said of Liggins:

“DeAndre is a junior guard on the basketball team. DeAndre is not the most vocal player on the team, but he leads by example with his work ethic and perseverance. That perseverance translates to the classroom, where he devotes tireless effort. DeAndre is also a role model in the community, where he generously volunteers his time with at-risk youth.”
