The meeting between the Alabama High School Athletic Association and Birmingham City School officials has been re-scheduled for next Monday, June 14.
What prompted the meeting was a story in The New York Times about NCAA investigators asking about the background of former Kentucky player Eric Bledsoe. The Times reported that the NCAA was asking about Bledsoe’s marked improvement in the classroom after transferring to Parker High in Birmingham and allegations about Parker Coach Maurice Ford paying several months of Bledsoe’s rent and marketing the player to college recruiters.
Ford has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
The meeting between the Alabama High School Athletic Association and Birmingham school officials was originally scheduled for Monday of this week. A conflict on the schedule of Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Craig Witherspoon caused the postponement.
The meeting is intended to look into ways to prevent future accusations on this nature, Birmingham City School officials have said.

Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.

If the meeting is intended to look into ways to prevent future accusations of this nature, then it has no bearing on Bledsoe’s eligibility.
But Tipton keeps hoping. Expect to see his “what prompted the meeting” boilerplate three more times: on the day of the meeting, shortly thereafter in follow up, and once again when nothing seems to be moving on the Bledsoe eligibility front.
