A purported important meeting concerning former Kentucky player Eric Bledsoe’s college eligibility was postponed.
A meeting between the Alabama High School Athletic Association and Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Craig Witherspoon was scheduled for Monday. Reginald McDaniel, the attorney for Bledsoe’s coach at Parker High School in Birmingham, said last week that the meeting would settle questions about Bledsoe’s eligibility.
But conflicts in Witherspoon’s schedule caused a postponement of the meeting. No new date had been set as of Tuesday afternoon.
A story in The New York Times last month raised questions about Bledsoe’s eligibility. The Times reported that the NCAA was investigating the marked improvement reflected in Bledsoe’s grade-point average once he transferred to Parker High.
The story also raised questions about then-Parker Coach Maurice Ford allegedly paying Bledsoe’s rent for several months and also marketing the player to colleges for a price.
