During the Derby Festival Basketball Classic, there was talk among media people that Kentucky might play as many as three home-away-from-home games in Louisville next season.
But on Monday UK Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart reinterated his opposition to more than the traditional one “home” game in Louisville in future seasons. He shook his head and voiced firm opposition to more than one “home” game in Louisville when asked after a UK Athletics Association Board of Directors meeting.
That was consistent with the opposition he voiced when asked that question last season shortly after UK Coach John Calipari suggested several “home” games in Louisville might make Kentucky’s largest city more friendly recruiting ground.
Barnhart said he expected UK’s annual “home” game in Louisville to continue to be played in Freedom Hall.
The University of Louisville will play its home games in a new downtown arena next season. UK is not welcome in that arena except as a visiting team or as a participant in the NCAA Tournament.
