Vitale moves UK to No. 3 in his top 25

ESPN’s ebullient commentator Dick Vitale, called to say he’s got Kentucky at No. 3 in his pre-season poll going into 2009-10.

He’s got Kansas No. 1 and Duke No. 2.

“If (Jodie) Meeks comes back, I’ll move them to No. 2 and maybe 1-A,” Vitale said of UK. “They’re ready to make a big splash.”

Vitale called to say that his annual gala fund-raiser reaped $1.1 million. Proceeds from the event, which was held last week, go to the V Foundation for the effort to find a cure for cancer.

The event honored Rick Pitino and Billy Donovan this year. One of the honorees for 2011 is — you guessed it — new UK Coach John Calipari.

Duke #2 huh. He is the ONLY person I’ve seen with Duke remotely that high. Which isn’t surprising coming from Dookie V.

Why would anyone care what Vitale thinks?

Notice Dicky V had to call to give his opinion and not vice versa.

Of course Dukey V would have Duke at number 2. I think he and coach K have a little something going on. Kentucky hates Dukey V anyway. The guys a sideshow. What has Duke done lately…nothing. Can we ban Dukey V from the state of Kentucky?

What do you expect from Dukie V. He has been a coach “k” apologist for years. Anytime a Duke player merely steps on the floor he goes on endlessly about what a great athletic move he made placing one foot in front of the other. Its time for him to retire.

I’ll sleep better tonight now that Dickie “V” has spoken!!!!!! (Sure I will)

I hope Mr. Vitale will pass the bong and whatever it is that he is smoking. I need something to dramatically alter my take on reality, too. Duke at #2? Really? No point guard to speak of and their top scorer goes to the NBA draft and signs with an agent. Come on, Dickie V.

All-America forward Gerald Henderson announced that he has hired an agent…. #2? Really?

Dick does realize that Wall signed with us, not Duke… right?

Dicky V. has always and always will love the ACC. I am surprised that he doesn’t have it 1. North Carolina 2. Duke then 3.-25. anybody’s guess. He needs to pull his head out of tobacco road and see just what a great job that Coach Cal has done in his first year of recruiting. Kentucky clearly is the #1 in recruits this year. Just wait until the kids hit the hardwood. Then we’ll see. Go Cats!

Sorry, I meant Tobacco Row.

I’ll buy Kansas. They’re loaded. But Duke? Yeah, they played well last year. Coach K can make any team play well. But with Scheyer at point guard and no true center, their shortcomings were noticeable. And those shortcomings remain unaddressed. Expect another good year from the Blue Devils, and another year without an ACC championship.

tobacco road is correct. hard row to hoe. some people like to say hard road to how and that would be true. Give poor vitale some wiggle room – he might favor the dookies but he will call out other teams when they merit it.

[...] the questions about Ladi Ajiboye’s status. Also, I’m a little late on noting this, but John Wall committed to Kentucky a couple of days ago. Dick Vitale now has the ‘Cats as his third-ranked team heading into 2009-2010. My first impression is that [...]
