Former Kentucky signee G.J. Vilarino committed to Gonzaga, according to a text message Monday morning from his father.
Vilarino was the first prospect to commit to UK when Billy Gillispie was coach two years ago. After UK fired Gillispie this spring, Vilarino re-opened his recruitment after speaking with new coach John Calipari. Calipari told Vilarino that the coach preferred bigger guards.
Vilarino made an official visit to Gonzaga this weekend.
Vilarino’s parents lived in Spokane, Wash., where Gonzaga is located. His mother attended Gonzaga.

Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.

I think that is great for the kid. You will soon find out that most of coach cal recruits don’t transfer but go to the pros or drop out. I am sorry a lot of them will get kicked off. Get ready
