It’s official. Highly regarded prospect DeMarcus Cousins signed with Kentucky on Wednesday, the first day prospects can sign national letters of intent during a monthlong spring period.
His high school coach from Mobile, Ala., Otis Hughley, confirmed that Cousins signed with UK at about 4:30 p.m. Cousins signed in a hotel room in New York City, where he went on Wednesday to begin preparations for a high school all-star game in Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
Using his cell phone’s photographic capability, Hughley took a picture of Cousins signing. The coach said he planned to send the picture to Cousins’ mother.
The Rivals.com recruiting service rates Cousins the second-best prospect in the high school class of 2009. He originally committed to Memphis, then decided to follow John Calipari to Kentucky.

doesn’t wall, meeks, henry, patterson, and cousins sound good, even better with orton, hood, dennis, liggins, and galloway coming off the bench
I’m looking at you, John Wall. No pressure…
Welcome aboard hope to see many great games from Cousin’s in the future.
Nice steal Cal and Kentucky. It feels just like it did when the 2000 election was stolen. Will the bad Karma follow as well?
It’s official! Cousins has been stolen from Memphis. After stealing Calipari, and Cal stealing the Memphis coaching staff along with the administrative staff (secretary included), the next objective is to get Xavier Henry, Nolan Dennis and the JC transfers. After that, plans have been made to steal Elvis, Interstate Bar-b-q, Beale Street and all the Moon Pies. We’ll turn this thing around yet! Stay tuned.
Hey Memphis Man, get over it. You sound like a frustrated fan. Life will continue, so get a life. I’m sure any University program would welcome any of these players you mention.
Congratulations and welcome to UK.
*This would look much better in blue type.
MemphisMan
I feel your pain, but I’ve had Interstate BBQ
It’s not that good……
Starnes is better…
Miller is the important link!!!!
We haven’t stolen anything first of all, and secondly if Cousins doesn’t qualify it’s all moot anyway…
MemphisMan, your Tigers will be alright. They will rebound and still be fine in CUSA. They may not be as dominant. You can’t fault a coach for wanting to try something new and challenging and players for wanting to play for a certain coach like Coach Cal.
BOB M. GET OVER IT!!! IT WAS YOUR HOUSE AND SENATE THAT RAN THIS COUNTRY INTO THE CRAPPER, NOT THE CONSERVATIVES!!! BTW, welcome Cousins!
Hey Memphis! The conspiracy theories are getting OLD! Move on!
Bob–don’t forget to poke your little voodoo doll!
and pilgram
Naw, Memphis Man! Don’t be silly! We won’t take your Moon Pies!
Cousins never signed with Memphis. And Cal wasn’t stolen. He was bought and paid for. Like every other coach that looks for a promotion (or in Tubby’s case, a demotion).
Calipari is a snake oil selling carperbagger. He was just booed in Memphis(tunica casino) at a fundraiser for “Cal and Friends” He proceeded to call his detractors “the miserables”. Roy Williams was as asked if he was going to try to take the players he recruited when he left Kansas for UNC. He Said” No, I recruited them for Kansas” Carpetpari spent a second day in Memphis waiting to announce his decision to go to UK so that he could call recruits and try to get them to drop their commitments to Memphis and change them to UK.
I am not a Memphis fan. I am a fan of the SEC. Calipari is tarnishing our image and threatens to tarnish the heralded image of Kentucky. Please watch what John is selling.

When will Jerry follow up on this report:
Gary Parrish of CBS Sports reported this morning on his weekly radio spot that he has been told from industry sources that Calipari is actively recruiting Darnell Dodson and Will Coleman to the University of Kentucky. Remember, both of these guys are still signed with the University of Memphis. No release has been granted on these guys.
