After formal interviews on Wednesday, Kentucky Coach Billy Gillispie paused by the locker room to respond to a few questions about his job status.
I missed th.e impromptu exchange. But in its Thursday edition, The Tampa Tribune reported that Gillispie talked about doing his job and ignoring the swirl of speculation about his job security.
“(Other people) get a lot more caught up in the things that go on outside than the coaches and the players do,” he said. “We try to work every single day. If you work well enough, coach well enough and recruit well enough, you’re going to have a good team. The outside things don’t really affect me because I don’t believe in wasting a lot of energy on those things.”
As he has earlier in his two seasons as Kentucky coach, Gillispie expressed appreciation for the job.
“Every job is different, no matter how similar it is to your last one, but I’ve got the best job in the world,” he said. “We’ve got the best fans, we’ve got the most fans, we have great resources.”
With Kentucky finishing fourth in the SEC Eastern Division and staring at its first absence from the NCAA Tournament since 1991, speculation has swirled about Gillispie. Earlier in the week, UK president Lee Todd said that Gillispie’s job performance would be evaluated after the season. Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart told ESPN.com that the coach might need to “make adjustments.”

I am in remission from leukemia right now, and this will probably be the last year for me to watch my beloved wildcats play. What a terrible way to remember your team, so many dumb decisions on the floor by the team and coach all year, and the stupid remarks from the same man at half time that is uncalled for, it is time for the Billy to change or leave.
I find the whole bunch from the UK President, his close associates - including medical center hierarchy, the HEAD of the athletic department, coach and even basketball players to be PRIMA DONNAS that know little humility and do nothing good, EXCEPT for public relations.
A POOR EXAMPLE for their followers and Kentucky.
Yes, I am sorry for being so inclusive, but due to fan’s WORSHIP of these gods and stifling of personal expression by those at the bottom, I know little reason to not be honest.
