Liggins remains on UK team . . .

It appears that DeAndre Liggins’ refusal to re-enter Kentucky’s game against Kansas State on Friday night has not led to a dismissal from the team.

Liggins was one of the first players off the bus when it arrived at Orleans Arena moments ago. When the team took the floor a minute ago for pre-game warmups, Liggons was in the group.

I’ve been told that Liggins also participated in UK team activities, including practice and pre-game meal, on Saturday. The Cats play West Virginia tonight in the championship game of the Las Vegas Invitational. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. EST.

Liggins refused to re-enter UK’s game on Friday in the second half. He had played two minutes in the first half, a cameo appearance that ended with his walking violation.

After the game, UK Coach Billy Gillispie struck a conciliatory tone by suggesting that Liggins’ understandable desire to play led to the mistake of refusing to re-enter the game. Gillispie noted how freshmen can make mistakes.

Among the media corps, an air of suspense hangs over the Liggins situation. Refusing a coach’s order to re-enteer a game seems like a capital athletic offense. There’s much speculation that Liggins will not play against West Virginia. Then we’ll have to see what happens.

Last night it was eveident Liggins lacks the character to play at Kentucky. Tonight it is evident Gillespe lacks the character to coach st Kentucky. Both need to go.
