Stewart is on team, UK says
Sophomore wing A.J. Stewart remains on the Kentucky basketball team, UK said on Tuesday. This “announcement” became necessary because of recent Internet chatter that suggested Stewart had been ordered out of Wildcat Lodge because he did not run fast enough in the team’s “Boot Camp” conditioning drills.
When asked about Stewart’s status on Tuesday, UK basketball publicist DeWayne Peevy wrote in an e-mail, “A.J. Stewart is a member of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team. He is working hard along with his teammates to prepare for the upcoming 2008-09 season.”
On Monday, Stewart’s high school coach acknowledged that Stewart had not run fast enough in drills. Rex Morgan said Stewart met with UK Coach Billy Gillispie to discuss the player’s status.
