Former South Laurel All-Stater Ty Proffitt Transfers to Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Ty Proffitt, a former all-state performer and Kentucky Mr. Basketball candidate at South Laurel High School in London, has transferred to Morehead State University and has attended classes. Proffitt spent the 2007-08 season at Notre Dame and will sit out this season while meeting NCAA transfer requirements. He will be able to practice with the 2008-09 Eagles.

“Ty played for one of the best high school coaches in the state in Steve Wright at South Laurel where they won a state championship,” said MSU Coach Donnie Tyndall. “He is proven winner and a tough, competitive young man. Not only is Ty a very good basketball player, he is an outstanding student and a fantastic person. We are thrilled to add Ty to our MSU basketball family.”

Proffitt averaged 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists as a senior at South Laurel. As the starting point guard for three years, he led South Laurel to a 109-26 record, to three consecutive region championships and to the 2004-05 Kentucky state championship. In addition to earning all-state honors three times, he was a two-time member of the all-state tournament team. His AAU team, Kentucky Heat, won back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to play for Coach Tyndall and be at Morehead State,” Proffitt said. “I have followed the program closely since Coach Tyndall has taken over and believe it is a program on the rise. I hope that I can contribute and help to build on the success that the team and Coach Tyndall have already had.

“Being at MSU puts me closer to home so my family and friends can watch me play as well. I can’t wait to get on the floor this week for workouts and get started as an Eagle.”
